As soon as Lavanya entered my clinic with her mother, I could feel that something was an issue – she was an 18 year old girl weighing 80 Kgs and breathless from a walk from her car to my clinic. She even stopped to catch her breath in the middle of our discussion which alarmed me even more.
Lavanya was suffering from PCOD.
It is one of the most common occurrences in women. According to a research one in every 10 women is suffering from PCOD today. It stands for Polycystic Ovary Disorder; or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). The term implies the formation of multiple cysts in the ovaries. Although it’s a hormonal disorder and the exact cause of this disease is hitherto unknown, it can be treated with holistic health care.
Over the years I have treated teenagers, newly married and middle aged women suffering from PCOD with my integrated healthcare in Pune.
It often takes time to understand the condition since the symptoms differ with the person. Some ladies show one set of symptoms while othersa different set. The condition is worsened by unhealthy eating habits and lack of exercise. Lavanya was also afflicted with unhealthy eating habits and dullness.
She is not the one to be blamed. The technology, which allows us to sit at one place and go through all the entertainment in the world, is at fault. Parents and teachers should push their kids to indulge in more physical activity. It shouldn’t always be as strict as a badminton class where the kids are compelled to keep their schedule and derive little to no pleasure from it. Parents should be enthusiastic enough to take their kids on regular outings and make exercise a family time. Let’s go back to Lavanya.
After I took her history, I came to know that she had irregular periods since the time she first started menstruating(menarche). Also due to her over eating habits and eternal love for sweets, she had gained a considerable weight. She hadalso become more irritable, dull and restless in the last few years. Her face had acne and overgrowth of hair (hirsutism) which contributed to her lack of confidence.
Luckily, her mom believes in holistic health treatments and natural medicines and hence decided to bring her daughter to me.
I knew if she switches to a healthier diet and exercise, her condition would improve rapidly. I suggested a few home remedies and lifestyle changes and the results were great.Lavanya and her mother could not be happier.
We may not know what causes PCOD, but we know this for sure that it grows rapidly in an unhealthy body. Hence it needs holistic health treatments. There are so many Lavanyas out there who are struggling with this condition.
